• The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has advised that 5 to 11-year-olds who are either in a clinical risk group or are a household contact of someone who is immunosuppressed should be offered two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, with a minimum interval of eight weeks. • This means around half a million children nationally will soon be invited to take up their jab. • The JCVI has set out criteria for determining who should be offered vaccination within this group and clinicians will be responsible for identifying children in their care who are eligible. • Information on eligibility can be found in the Green Book, chapter 14a in the section on children aged 5-11 years and tables 3 and 4. How will I know if my child is eligible? • GPs and hospital specialists have been asked to identify 5 to 11-year-olds who are eligible. For children eligible as a household contact, we will write directly to the person who is immunosuppressed. • Parents and guardians will be notified if their child should get the vaccine and told how they can book an appointment. The NHS will be in touch in the coming weeks if your child is eligible, so it’s important that parents wait to hear from us and do not contact their GP.

As part of NHSX's continuing work against the Covid-19 pandemic they are looking to support people across England understand more about the NHS App and the COVID Pass. This includes the features and benefits it can bring to individuals needing to access health and care services as well as using the features to help them in several aspects of their management of Covid. NHSX have now produced a NHS Family Communications Social Media Toolkit (attached) to help enable CCGs, ICS and primary care contractors on their social media channels. The toolkit includes high quality engaging content such as social media posts, impactful infographics, animations and also videos tailored with a diverse and wide-ranging audience in mind to drive likes, shares and click-throughs with the desired call-to-action of downloading the NHS App and COVID Pass. NHSX hopes that you find these useful but should you have any questions or feedback about the toolkit and/or the assets, then please contact Stephen Breen in the first instance: stephen.breen@nhsx.nhs.net NHS App and COVID Pass Social Media Toolkit for NHS Family …and as mentioned previously we would recommend the migration from Patient Access to the NHS App

As expected following the BBC News announcement re vaccinating children …here follows the guidance! The key messages are: • Enhanced Service Updated to include under 18s – thus providing contractual cover and indemnity: 1. Raising Adults i.e. 17 ¾ and included in Cohort 12 2. 16 to 17 ¾ year olds are included in cohort 12 3. Eligible 12 to 15 year olds are now cohort 13 4. PCN groupings must have a new Collaborative Agreement in place including reference to the new extended cohorts by 5th September • PCNs can start vaccinating 16 to 17 year olds and eligible 12 to 15 year olds BUT must be assured that they meet the additional protocols/standards around vaccinating children: 1. Additional requirements included in the ES are here: National minimum standards and core curriculum for immunisation training for registered healthcare practitioners (publishing.service.gov.uk) 2. Children’s Self Assessment checklist attached 3. Additional training requirement and online training links available here: Clinical models phase three_Children Vaccination - COVID-19 Vaccination Programme - FutureNHS Collaboration Platform 4. (The assurance checklist applies to all 3 groups; raising adults, 16-17 ¾s, 12-15 CEV) 5. PGD for 16-18s Coronavirus » Patient Group Direction for COVID-19 mRNA vaccine BNT162b2 (Pfizer/BioNTech) (england.nhs.uk) 6. 12-15 year olds MUST be done under PSD 7. There is an option to opt out of cohort 13 (i.e. eligible 12 to 15 year olds) and this need be done by 23.59 on 13th Aug by notifying the CCG (this does not impact capability to deliver Phase 1,2,3 Cohort 1-12) 8. The CCG are talking to CWPT re supporting the vaccinating of cohort 13 and further info will follow • PCNs using NBS 1. From Monday raising adults i.e. 17 ¾s will be invited via NBS. 2. The default national assumption is that PCN LVS sites are compliant with children’s requirements as Primary Care have experience of childhood IMMs, and as such LVS sites will be available on NBS very early next week. [Note: We are aware that most LVS sites do not necessarily mirror childhood IMMs models – if your LVS is not in a position to accept 17 ¾s you will need to update your QFLOW to switch this off to prevent bookings. See attached guidance on how to action this]. 3. Work is underway to allow bookings for 16-17 ¾s, however it is likely a local booking system (or walk-in clinic approach) will be needed for 12-15 CEV – more information to follow. Rebecca, Sarah and I are all around if you have any questions…and please email us formally if you wish to opt out of cohort. Please see attached C1375 - Enhanced Service Specification: COVID-19 vaccination programme 2020/21 – version 10 and C1377 - Enhanced Service Specification: COVID-19 vaccination programme: phase 3 2021/22 – version 2.1 Enhanced service specifications updated in line with latest JCVI guidance Further to the JCVI’s recent announcements on 15 July and 4 August about the vaccination of children and young people, we have updated the COVID-19 enhanced service specification for phases 1 and 2 and the enhanced service specification for phase 3 to include the new eligible patients. Practices delivering COVID-19 vaccinations under the phases 1 and 2 Enhanced Service (ES) can start vaccinating eligible children and younger people immediately subject to meeting the requirements of the ES. That includes eligible 12–15-year-olds and all 16- and 17-year-olds. Until Public Health England (PHE) update the national protocol and Patient Group Direction (PGD), sites will need to use a Patient Specific Direction (PSD). If a PCN grouping is signed up to the ES for phases 1 and 2 but does not wish to vaccinate eligible 12–15-year-old patients (cohort xiii), they must opt out of delivering COVID-19 vaccinations to cohort xiii by 23:59 on 13 August in writing to their local commissioner (CCG), which is providing administrative support to NHS England so alternative provision can be secured. Further details and support on running searches and identifying eligible 12–15-year-old children will be shared shortly. In addition to these changes, the ES specification for phases 1 and 2 has also been extended until the end of October 2021 to enable any PCN groupings not participating in the phase 3 enhanced service to complete any remaining second doses for eligible patients. We have also made a few updates to align both the phases 1 and 2 and phase 3 ES specifications and future proof them. The amendments are highlighted in the specifications. The highest priority for the NHS remains the safety of staff, patients and visitors. While COVID restrictions will end in many settings in England from 19 July, everyone accessing or visiting healthcare settings must continue to wear a face covering (unless they are exempt) and follow social distancing rules. Public Health England’s infection prevention control guidelines and hospital visiting guidance are therefore set to remain in place for all staff and visitors and across all health services including hospitals, GP practices, dentists, optometrists and pharmacies to ensure patients and staff are protected. Read the infection prevention control guidance in full at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-infection-prevention-and-control Please read or download the Comms Document here .
