Emis Remote VPN Access

EMIS - Notes to support remote working installation.

Important constraints on VPN.

• Do not use any web browsers within the VPN session that are going to run video or high usage content this will eat up the capacity quickly and slow everything down.

• Do not try to run and video consultation software through the VPN please use your mobile and ensure that it is connected to a wifi network. Note – do not enable your camera and ensure that that patient is in a private space.

Complete these steps before installing software.

• Ensure that your windows operating system has run all of the latest security updates and it is set to update automatically. Note - If you do not complete this you may get a message saying that your system does not meet the system requirements.

• Ensure that you know your Emis password for use without smart card access. Note – you will need this until smart card access is enabled

• Capture your PC asset number which you can find on your work PC or home screen (first log in screen, not hosted session) – Note - you may need this for docman set up.

Install software following the instructions provided

• Be patient when doing this it can take some time and may not look like it is doing anything but it is.
• Follow on screen prompts and accept the recommended settings

• If you encounter error messages, then please take a screen shot and email to SWFT support services

• When you are asked to connect to the VPN enter your username and password that you would use to first logon to your work PC.

• When you see the EMIS bar select that and you should see the normal EMIS login, enter your normal details at that point and use your non smart card password when you are in the clinical session.

• If the session or connection drops out for any reason you will be asked to re-enter your initial pc login details, after which it should reconnect where you were previously.

• You will have not have access to Docman unless you are using Docman 10.

Further preparation for home working

• Obtain a smart card reader and take it home with you for when the technology is enabled (we have 50 at red roofs, so ask if you need them but check your surgery first)

• Keep your smart card on a lanyard and take this home with you (do not make it visible to the general public)

• Ensure that your workspace at home is a private as it can be and as comfortable.

• You may wish to take a separate mouse and or keyboard depending upon availability but this is not essential but helpful for laptop working.

• If you use your own mobile ensure that your number is withheld.

• Ensure that you have the details of any passwords that may be stored automatically or file locations for hyperlinks just in case they don’t work.
