1. Antibody testing for GP practice staff - now live! to include links to email
Tests which determine if someone has had COVID-19 (coronavirus) are starting to be rolled out across Coventry and Warwickshire, for all practice staff including locums.

Earlier today a separate email was sent providing details of the preocess. Do remember that the antibody test tells the person if they have had the virus or not, but not about any level of protection or immunity from getting the virus again. It is important to remember that anyone having this test should still adhere to the guidance regarding social distancing, hand hygiene and wearing of PPE as recommended by public health experts. If you missed the email a copy can be accessed here.

2. Learning Disabilities Annual Health Checks
We would like to thank you all for participating in the Learning Disability DES (Direct Enhanced Service) and supporting this vulnerable cohort of patients. As we know this group experiences poor health outcomes and this has only increased since the arrival of Covid-19. Continuing with annual health Checks is seen as a priority and we can confirm where not possible, face to face these can be conducted via a video link. Download the document and suggested invitation letter template.

3. Steam Inhalation and Paediatric Burns during COVID-19 Pandemic
There has been a significant increase in children presenting to burns units following the use of steam inhalation to treat colds /congestion during the pandemic. Steam inhalation is a hazard to children. Resulting scalds can ultimately lead to hospital admission, surgery, and life-long disfigurement. Parental education is paramount to preventing these injuries. It is suggested that clinicians should actively discourage steam inhalation and educate parents about alternative treatments for their child. Evidence suggests no therapeutic benefit from this practice. To access the full article visit the Lancet website.

4. Letter for the sessional/locum GP workforce

In addition, the letter recognises the universal challenges faced by primary care including the need to deliver care differently, work remotely, become familiar with digital healthcare and outlines a number of resources available. The full letter is available to download.

15. Practice Nurse Immunisation Training update
Please note the brief summary and a link to the full guidance released 26 June 2020. Immunisation remains an essential service and immunisation training should continue to be seen as an important priority during the pandemic. It is vital that immunisers are given the time and opportunity to undertake training and that they are supervised and supported in practice as required. Good quality immunisation training prevents errors and leads to a successful programme. The overall recommendations made in the training standards for immunisation have not changed but while pandemic related restrictions apply, the ways in which immunisers undertake training may need to be adapted. The full training guidance during the Covid-19 pandemic can be downloaded.

As of 9am on 1 July, there have been 9,662,051 tests, with 226,398 tests on 30 June.
313,483 people have tested positive.
